I try to incorporate as much natural light, energy, texture, and drama in each image. My love of nature draws me into the subject.

Tricia May was born in New Jersey and raised in Southern California. She attended Orange Coast College and California State College in Fullerton, where her artistic abilities emerged. Watercolor was Tricia’s first medium of choice, painting children's portraits while raising her own family.
When Tricia moved to Boise, Idaho with her family in 1992, she began taking oil painting workshops. She soon discovered the freedom of oils and the exhilarating experience of painting outdoors. She began giving private lessons and in 1999 founded the Plein Air Painters of Idaho.
Trips throughout the Northwest, Hawaii and the French countryside have furnished Tricia with endless material to paint. Brightly colored impressionistic still life and florals are also favorite subject matter as well as abstract compositions.
Tricia spends a great deal of time preparing for a painting. Whether working on an abstract design or a representational one, she starts with several drawings and a value sketch. Only after the composition is working does she choose a color scheme. Working in oils, she paints from dark to light and from thin to thick.
With broad, textured brush strokes and luminous colors, Tricia May creates radiant paintings alive with energy. Whether representational or abstract, Tricia takes the individual components of her paintings - light, color and texture - and expertly melds them to render her impressionistic translation of the world around her.
