More about Robert Joyner

Open_quote

I always try to express my joy for painting and life.

Bio

Robert Joyner was born in Hampton, Virginia and had a childhood typical of any boy growing up in the pre-Nintendo era. His days were filled with collecting baseball cards, jumping ramps on his rusted-out huffy and playing sandlot football with his older brother. After graduating high school, Robert was engaged in several entrepreneurial ventures, from commercial fishing to ballroom dancing and in 1996, moved to South Walton, Florida to help start a bicycle shop. Many years later, feeling tired and stressed, Robert decided to take a break and reflect on his life. He naturally began sketching to fill the idle time and his thirty-minute sessions quickly turned into all day art bonanzas.

When asked about his art and why he paints, he simply states "I feel I have taken life too seriously for too long. The simplest rule in life is to enjoy it. If the viewer has a sense of effortlessness and playfulness while viewing my art, then I feel I've done a good job."

In Our Words

Robert Joyner’s paintings are rooted in reality, yet veer into the fanciful with his expressive and free-form application of the watercolor medium. Departing from any formality, Robert’s paintings are improvisational snapshots of his world, done with a joy and passion that will most certainly speak to the viewer.
