Louise Aug lives and works in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is an artist, singer, songwriter, performer, writer, poet, and teacher. She is also an avid traveler and explorer with particular interests in ascension consciousness and dreams.
Working intuitively, Louise starts by feeling the canvas or surface and then allows what goes there to come from an inner sense. Her recent work, complete abstract paintings with the addition of figures, seeks to have balance; the abstract painting maintains its presence while the figures move with it and through it, standing out yet never taking over. Her figures can take the quality of caricature which suits her idea of creating a statement lifted beyond judgments.
Louise has maintained her studio at the Pendelton Art Center for 16 years with an active career as a painter. She has exhibited her work locally, nationally, and internationally, most recently in Barcelona, Spain. She was recently commissioned to create three fabric banners for Clinton Memorial Hospital OBGYN unit and also participates in the Taft Museum of Art ARC program.
Several elements are at play in Louise Aug’s work; brilliant abstractions, with playful palettes and bold compositions, harmonize with their veneer of highly gestural figurative line drawings. The results are radiant paintings that exude energy and emotion.
