For me, a favorite detail in my work might be a small glowing triangle of color or a shadow created by the sun on a perfect day.
Douglass College, Bachelor of Fine Arts
New Jersey artist, Linnea Rhodes, has been working in black ink for most of her life. After receiving a Fine Arts degree in printmaking from Douglass College, she then spent many years doing pen and ink house renderings. It wasn't until recently that Linnea incorporated color into her art, turning to local New Jersey towns, landscapes in the Berkshires and the scenes of Europe for inspiration.
Working in both oils on canvas as well as with water colored pen and inks on paper, Linnea's varied architectural paintings use color to convey a sense of time and place to her viewers. Each painting is a study of the effect of light as it changes in accordance with the atmospheric conditions and location, all with extreme attention to detail. She counts Edward Hopper and Edgar Degas as artistic influences, citing their use of light, shadow and color as inspirations.
Co-president of the Contemporary Art Group, a group of producing artists from Central New Jersey, Linnea has an enthusiastic following who enjoy her personal approach to realism. She has had numerous solo shows in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Linnea Rhode's whimsical architectural renderings - whether it's the house next door or a far-off destination - deliver the viewer to a new world...one of saturated colors and light, all done in exquisite detail. Linnea successfully translates the color of light in a charming and playful manner, while capturing the true sense of her depicted locations.
