My vision is to make art from my heart and from my soul, and to let my hands follow the flow from within.
Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Laurence Groux comes from an extended family of various craftsman and, hence, was naturally drawn to working with her hands. Having always had an unexplainable sense that she is an instinctive artist, she staved off formal training at any art conservatory and ventured into a long, sometimes arduous, self-instructed career.
Laurence approaches her art with no preconceived ideas, but instead pays attention to the cadence of her creative impulses. She simply lets it take control of her and allows a natural transformation which often yields unexpected revelations. Her art is resplendent in recurring motifs and the Spirituality that inspires them. Her latest work is a series of abstract paintings and drawings with a meditative character. The series is called "Meditation."
Laurence currently lives and works in New York City as a working artist, commissioned-muralist, and a private art teacher. In November 2008, Laurence was the Saatchi Online Artist of the Month, where the award manifesto compared her work to Miro and Picasso. She is also a recipient of the 2009 NoMAA (Northern Manhattan Art Alliance) Individual Artist Grant and her work will be seen in a book called, "A Published Gallery," to be published in Fall of 2009.
Laurence Groux’s compelling compositions, with their harmonious color palettes and subtle texture, combine to create pieces that are energetic and full of life. Beyond the surface, however, these patterned composites are rife with various symbolic elements, inviting the viewer to discover the deeper themes inherent in her work.
