Bio

Milwaukee artist, Jim Zwadlo, likes to imagine, while walking in the street, what it would be like to be in the air, to float along, instead of always marching in step with the other pedestrians. From this vantage point, everyone looks different, yet they are no further away than before; their shadows form a complex pattern with the crosswalk stripes and the people themselves form into constantly changing patterns.

Jim chooses to depict only ordinary people, not trained performers. Yet, he discovers a “found choreography” within the randomness of their movements, which from his point of view, looks like a dance.

Jim’s large-scale oils paintings have been exhibited extensively and are in corporate and private collections across the country.

In Our Words

Perched above humanity, Jim Zwadlo captures pieces of our fast paced, frenetic world and cleverly distills them into a poetic dance of shadow and light, pattern and perspective. Monumental in their approach, Jim’s canvases produce a certain amount of wonder; taking what could be considered mundane and elevating it to the extraordinary.
