More about Greg Minah

Open_quote

My work interacts with and challenges the viewer in much the same way as music and poetry - a lyrical moment, suspended in time, that evolves with closer readings.

Bio

Greg Minah grew up in Columbia, Maryland, a suburb located between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Maryland at College Park and graduated in 2001 with degrees in English Literature and Studio Art. Upon graduating, Minah was awarded the Colonel Wharton Award for outstanding achievement in painting. Greg recently spent a month in the Mojave Desert completing the 2008 Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency program, where he was one of nine artists from around the world selected for the residency. Greg was also recently named as Liquitex Paint's Artist of the Month in December 2008.

Greg works in acrylic paint on canvas. When he paints, he does so without a plan, preferring his paintings to evolve organically. He thins out the paint with water or acrylic medium and "draws" by tilting the canvas. He enjoys working with transparent colors and glazes that reveal more of the process and give the final piece a certain luminosity.

In Our Words

There is a flowing energy to Greg Minah's paintings. Organic shapes move in and out of focus, as vibrant colors illuminate the canvas. A sense of chaos abounds, yet there is a cohesiveness to his work. The paintings capture the imagination and compel the viewer to unravel the mysteries contained within.
