Bio

Filomena Booth was born in Portugal and migrated to the United States with her parents as a young child. Raised in northeast New Jersey, she developed a love of art at a young age and went on to become a high school art teacher. Filomena eventually started her own custom art business and currently lives in rural central Texas.

Although Filomena’s work is abstract, she is influenced by the colors and textures of nature. A brilliant sunset or the feel of a misty morning evokes something in her that may find its way into her work. Filomena normally doesn’t have a preconceived idea in mind as she begins each painting, but will guide and coax the composition and colors until the piece quietly “speaks” to her that it is finished. She begins by sketching some structural lines on the canvas - the "bones" of the painting. As Filomena begins to apply paint, sometimes using her hands as brushes, the painting begins to evolve as she continues to add or subtract color and texture. On occasion, she will fine-tune the work with collage or calligraphic elements.

Filomena’s work can be found in many prestigious homes and corporate offices throughout the country. She has received awards from American Artist Magazine and Lascaux/Savoire Fair.

In Our Words

Filomena Booth’s abstract paintings entrance the viewer with their rich textures and radiant colors. She employs multiple layers - subtly executed - to achieve a luminescent feel. Enigmatic shapes and symbols delicately hover in the midst, adding an element of mystery and intrigue.
