In each painting I return to how it felt to be spellbound, staring at a scene aggrandized by a moment of the sun's undivided attention.

Each of Caroline’s paintings begins on a brilliant hot red ground. She paints the sunlight first, establishing the value contrast initially and then goes for important aspects of the image with little concern for detail. Divided color marks build an image. The red ground stays intermittently visible between brushstrokes throughout, generating visual effects both literal and psychological.
With their rich tones and mesmerizing brush strokes, Caroline Jasper’s paintings transform ordinary places into remarkable landscapes. The unifying reds of her canvases add vibrancy to each piece, but also lend real warmth; you can almost feel the sun on your shoulders as the gentle breeze ripples across the water or rustles through the trees. Her use of light, whether as reflections upon the water or in the long shadows of the trees, completes this experiential effect.
